Public Works will provide a presentation to Council to discuss how a trackhoe purchase may assist our construction crew in getting more production.  We have had a demo trackhoe at the construction site.  We have a rental unit coming next week.

Public Works has experienced difficulty recently with heavy haulers using freshly oiled roads as their heavy loads are causing extraordinary wear and tear on the road surface in a short period of time.

At the March 2016 Council meeting, Council discussed crushing gravel on the road allowance adjacent to the Richland pit, approximately 400,000 yards, with the work to be done in September 2016.  Public works staff is currently working with Alberta Transportation for approval to crush gravel on the road allowance.

Administration put out a tender to crush gravel on the road allowance adjacent to the Richland Pit (NW 16 and SW 21-56-7-W4 and Road Plan 912 2665), after receiving approval from Alberta Transportation. The tenders are now closed.

County Council has expressed a desire to move to full cost accounting for our water utilities moving forward. With the EPCOR water supply forthcoming, the County must consider how to structure the cost of water to meet this goal. Attached is a work plan from Urban Systems that outlines the process that we are proposing to achieve setting of new rates.  Administration presented this work plan to Alberta Transportation hoping that the cost would be covered by the Water for Life Program, however we have received an email indicating that this cost is not going to be covered.  As we did not include this expense in the 2016 budget, Administration is asking council to consider approving the expense, or portion thereof so that we can proceed with the proper analysis of costs in order to charge the appropriate amount for water once the water transmission line project is complete.

The Chamber of Commerce is hosting the Annual Rodeo Week Kick-Off Supper on Monday, August 29th.  Tickets are $40 each or $300 for a table of 8.

They are also requesting donations of a product or service from businesses for the silent auction.  Donation may be grouped to create a "themed" package or may be used as a door prize.   They have requested overnight stays at the parks for the 2017 season.

Last year, Council made a motion to approve the purchase of the number of tickets required by Council and Administration at $40 per ticket and make a cash contribution for the balance up to $300.

It has come to administration's attention that there are not enough SCBA masks for each individual fire fighter in our two fire departments - Rob Duffy is working on obtaining a quote for masks and fitting of those masks.  We hope to have the quote for council's consideration on Tuesday.

The Camp Whitney Society requires $29,000 to pay for wheelchair accessible washrooms. Their request was tabled at the July Council meeting in an effort to aid the Society with completing grant applications. Unfortunately, the work has already been completed, which makes the Society's project ineligible for grant funding.

The Society would appreciate financial assistance from the County as well as assistance with paving a short path on their property.
